About the role

  • Automotive Paint Prep Technician at Aviva AutoCare Centre responsible for preparing vehicles for refinish coatings. Collaborating with team to ensure high-quality standards in paint preparation tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing repaired surfaces for primer, paint, and finishing
  • Work closely with painters and body technicians to ensure all vehicles are prepped to a high-quality standard
  • Clean, degrease, and inspect surfaces to ensure they are ready for primer and paint
  • Perform sanding, masking, feather edging, and surface preparation on repaired panels
  • Apply primers and sealers as directed the paint, shop or OE processes
  • Mask and protect areas of the vehicle that should not be painted
  • Pour paint into spray guns and adjust nozzles and paint mixes for proper paint flow and coating thickness
  • Operate automated body paint systems for various types of vehicles
  • Ensure the painting processes adopted are performed in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible
  • Assist in the development of new paint processes and procedures
  • Monitor painting operations to identify flaws, such as blisters and streaks, and correct their causes
  • Ensure repairs flow through the workshop and identify issues that result in failure
  • Be an active team member who encourages a collaborative working environment focusing on the customer and what matters to them
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas, tools, and equipment
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and handling of materials
  • Promote Aviva AutoCare Centre values and goals

Requirements

  • 1-2 years experience of working within the collision repair industry, preferably in the Paint department
  • Knowledge of automotive refinishing and repair practices and procedures
  • Attention to detail and pride in producing clean, professional work
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic experience with sanding tools, masking materials, and automotive refinishing products (preferred but not required; training provided)
  • Demonstrates adaptability and openness to change with a proactive mindset in embracing new work practices and technologies
  • Commitment to an environment of continuous improvement
  • Ability to take direction and perform well under pressure
  • Strong awareness of safety practices and procedures
