About the role

  • Grants Manager managing healthcare, science, and research funding portfolios for Canada’s Azrieli Foundation. Evaluating grants, developing initiatives, and supporting Board-level philanthropic decisions across Canada and Israel.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of grants within the Healthcare, Science and Research pillar
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, emerging issues, evaluations, academic literature, policy, and innovations to enhance grant-making strategies
  • Develop strategies and policies with senior leaders for CEO and Board consideration, and implement approved strategies
  • Identify funding and partnership opportunities aligned with charitable tax laws and the Foundation’s mission
  • Ensure proposals and documentation comply with the Foundation’s grant-making process, policies, and strategic framework
  • Conduct preliminary evaluations of submissions
  • Develop grant key performance indicators for Senior Management approval
  • Develop, review, and modify initiatives in strategic areas and prepare them for Board presentation
  • Attend relevant conferences and position the Foundation’s brand
  • Administer grants from intake through payment processing and report monitoring
  • Follow up with funded organizations to ensure goals are met and funds are spent as agreed
  • Assess grant performance and outcomes to inform future funding decisions
  • Contribute to the Science Grant Awards Program
  • Communicate with funded organizations regarding Foundation brand standards
  • Liaise with funded organizations on joint projects

Requirements

  • Advanced scientific or clinical degree (PhD or MD) or equivalent experience
  • Minimum three years of experience working in a similar role in a public or not-for-profit organization
  • Work experience in healthcare or research in Canada or Israel is an asset
  • Robust project management skills; PMP is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • Curious, analytical thinker
  • Strong verbal and written communication, listening, and implementation skills
  • Ability to take direction from multiple people and proactively manage that dynamic
  • Detail- and deadline-oriented with strong multitasking skills
  • Customer- and service-oriented, with ability to adapt to different personalities and approaches
  • Adaptable and comfortable with change
  • Confident and proactive approach to resolving issues
  • Knowledge of MS Office
  • Proficiency with web-based program management and knowledge-sharing platforms
  • Highly organized, flexible, creative, and resourceful; able to adapt to shifting priorities and meet tight timelines
  • Knowledge of French is an asset
