About the role

  • Senior Building Consultant performing construction inspections, appraisals, and cost controls for Sedgwick’s technology-enabled risk-services business. Serving clients, managing reports, and growing local consulting relationships across Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Service industry clients through consulting services
  • Grow the local client base
  • Mentor new hires in a team-building environment
  • Perform site inspections of affected residential, commercial, and industrial structures
  • Gather information required for requested services
  • Produce detailed construction specifications, scopes of work, and bid documents
  • Prepare appraisals of materials, labor, and equipment for reconstruction projects
  • Develop unit costs reflecting local labor, material, equipment, productivity, and site conditions
  • Produce appraisals and valuations using Xactimate, Microsoft Excel, CoreLogic (Marshall & Swift/Boeckh), and RS Means
  • Develop cost controls and review restoration options and cost-effective repair solutions
  • Audit restoration and reconstruction project costs
  • Coordinate communication among multiple stakeholders
  • Review reports for accuracy and completeness before issuance
  • Deliver reports to clients on time
  • Maintain accurate records using designated technology
  • Manage billings and work in progress
  • Maintain customer service and client satisfaction
  • Promote Sedgwick Building Consulting Services to existing and new clients
  • Support quality assurance programs
  • Travel as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred
  • Five (5) or more years of Building Consulting experience is preferred
  • Eight (8) or more years experience as a Project Manager or Estimator in the Construction or Restoration Industries is required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
  • High level proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel
  • Ability to read and interpret Architectural and Engineering drawings and specifications
  • Strong analytical and interpretive skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent negotiating skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies
  • Must maintain valid driver's license with clean driving history
  • Ability to work from home
  • Ability to use and maintain required PPE, including hard hats, safety boots, and full and half face respirators
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and varying temperatures and humidity
  • Ability to work in buildings damaged by fire, water, or other losses, with exposure to hazardous materials, molds, and fungi
  • Ability to climb ladders or scaffolds for roof or building exterior inspections
