About the role
- Senior Manager leading Elastic’s endpoint protections team across Windows, macOS, and Linux. Directing engineering, malware defense, machine learning, and cross-platform security delivery.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a world-class engineering team
- Guide senior research engineers across endpoint internals, prevention engineering, and machine learning
- Coach career development, deliver candid feedback, own the hiring pipeline, and onboard new engineers
- Own the roadmap and drive delivery across visibility, prevention engines, performance, efficacy, and stability
- Work with product managers to define requirements and deliver high-quality features on release timelines
- Connect endpoint work to broader Elastic Security detection and protection capabilities
- Direct machine learning work, including model development, training data quality, telemetry features, and broader security ML strategy
- Drive cross-platform protection parity across Windows, macOS, and Linux
- Maintain relationships with platform vendors to gain early access to emerging operating system security APIs
- Support conference presentations and Elastic Security Labs publications
- Engage customers and partners on protection capabilities
- Represent Elastic in the endpoint security community
Requirements
- People-leadership experience managing senior technical individual contributors on a globally distributed team
- Track record of growing people and delivering results
- Substantial hands-on experience as a security researcher before moving into leadership
- Experience analyzing attacker tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs)
- Experience building protections that counter adversaries and shipping software to customer machines at scale
- Hands-on operating system internals knowledge in kernel and user mode
- Deep Windows expertise; macOS or Linux experience close behind
- Hands-on reverse engineering and malware analysis experience
- Ability to read disassembly and assess research findings
- Ability to anticipate how protections will be evaded and design for resilience
- Clear communication skills for technical, executive, and non-expert audiences
- Motivation to thrive in a distributed, autonomous environment
- Genuine passion for protecting customers from real-world adversaries
- Demonstrated experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools
- Ability to rotate across projects, collaborate across functions and teams, and adapt to evolving team structures
- Prior ownership of an EDR, EPP, or other endpoint security product (bonus)
- Published vulnerabilities, patents, technical writing, or conference talks (bonus)
- Experience leading machine learning engineers on security problems (bonus)
- Experience taking research prototypes through to GA release (bonus)
- Conference speaking experience, such as Black Hat, DEF CON, CODE BLUE, or Virus Bulletin (bonus)
- Familiarity with the Elastic Stack, Elasticsearch, Kibana, and Elastic Security (bonus)
