About the role

  • Treasury Analyst intern executing GIC, cash, and investment operations at EQ Bank, a Canadian challenger bank. Supporting AI automation, IFRS 9 controls, and Treasury process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Execute daily, weekly, and monthly GIC operational activities, including origination monitoring, pricing dashboards, and journal entries
  • Maintain resilient operations with effective controls
  • Optimize and re-engineer processes to simplify operations while upgrading outputs
  • Manage day-to-day cash/investment operations by working with stakeholders to position the Bank within risk limits
  • Act as a backup for other Treasury processes covered by team members
  • Execute ad-hoc initiatives and analyses
  • Report to the Senior Manager of Credit Risk and work closely with Credit Risk Analysts, Associates, and Managers
  • Produce accurate analysis, maintain data integrity, and adhere to internal risk management and governance standards
  • Support operational and transformation initiatives within the Credit Risk department
  • Assist in automating IFRS 9 controls/checks through AI for audit purposes
  • Assist Credit Risk teams with enabling AI tools in select functions

Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant field required (Business, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, etc.)
  • Knowledge of banking products such as loans and deposits and how they work
  • Exposure to capital markets, including the valuation and pricing of fixed income securities
  • Ability to break down processes to simplify/re-engineer
  • Strong Excel skills, including reconciliations
  • Comfort working with data via tools such as SQL or SAS
  • Treasury activity experience in Funding, Trading, Liquidity Risk Management, Market Risk Management, Capital Management, or Transfer Pricing considered an asset
  • Bloomberg, CANNEX, and/or Portfolio+ experience considered an asset
  • Exposure to an OSFI-regulated financial institution
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including comfort operating in a quantitative area
  • Good attention to detail, sense of ownership, and ability to operate independently
  • Superior work ethic and hunger for continual learning
  • Good communication skills, including distilling data analysis into key findings
  • Highly driven to go above and beyond expectations
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and credit check required for candidates considered for hire
