About the role
- Senior Engineering Manager leading Joist product squads at EverCommerce, a service-commerce SaaS platform. Managing delivery, architecture, agile development, and engineer growth for contractor software.
Responsibilities
- Lead two cross-functional product development squads working on the Joist product
- Manage and develop engineers in a product development environment
- Contribute to solutions from inception through deployment
- Guide teams to set clear objectives and communicate up-to-date delivery timelines
- Remove project roadblocks and maintain delivery focus
- Coordinate and communicate with peers inside and outside engineering
- Design robust and scalable systems with engineers
- Dissect business problems into well-designed technical systems
- Select appropriate tools based on algorithms, data structures, design patterns, and data storage technologies
- Mentor and grow engineers
- Partner with Product Management to experiment, iterate, and ship quickly
- Take ownership of software projects from scoping and estimation through production release
- Operate high-performing engineering squads using agile software development processes
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience leading engineers as their direct manager in a product development environment
- Preferably experience managing teams spanning multiple technology stacks
- 5+ years of professional industry experience as a software developer working in agile teams
- Successful record of mentoring and growing other engineers
- Proven ability to own software projects from scoping and estimation through production
- Ability to partner with Product Management to experiment, iterate, and ship quickly
- Ability to communicate deeply technical topics clearly and concisely
- Strong software and product development opinions while remaining receptive to others’ views
- Expertise in agile software development processes
- Ability to operate high-performing engineering squads
- Bonus: direct experience with Ruby on Rails, React, iOS (Swift), or Android (Kotlin)
- Bonus: experience managing teams in companies with multiple product squads sharing common platform/infrastructure
- Must be eligible to work without sponsorship
- Travel to corporate headquarters or other North American offices may be required
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a similar field is helpful but explicitly not a requirement
