About the role
- Senior Director leading government engagement, partnerships, and thought leadership for Generate Canada’s clean-economy Solution Spaces. Building influence and funding across Canadian stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Shape and lead Generate Canada’s approach to external engagement and influence
- Design and execute strategies to cultivate and steward funders and collaborators across industries, government, academia, and NGOs
- Develop and execute a thought leadership strategy positioning Generate Canada, its Solution Spaces, and partners as credible sources of expertise
- Identify, support, and engage leaders, policymakers, academics, and collaborators in events and communications
- Support commissioning, shaping, and promotion of research, reports, op-eds, and speaking opportunities
- Partner with Solution Space leaders to identify and amplify insights from ongoing convening
- Design, coordinate, and lead government engagement with elected officials, policy advisors, and civil servants
- Monitor policy and legislative developments and provide briefings to the CEO, Managing Directors, and Board
- Represent Generate Canada in government and multi-stakeholder policy forums
- Support preparation for government meetings, consultations, and submissions
- Build and maintain a structured map of government relationships and coordinated engagement calendar
- Cultivate and steward corporate, association, and foundation partnerships securing financial and in-kind support
- Develop contributor recognition, partnership pipeline, and stewardship tools, policies, and systems
- Develop cases for support, funding proposals, and sponsorship packages
- Strengthen CRM/relationship management, briefing templates, government-engagement protocols, and thought-leadership content pipelines
- Identify opportunities to amplify Solution Spaces’ outreach and networks
- Contribute to Board and funder reporting on external affairs impact and progress
- Report to the President & CEO and collaborate with Solution Space senior leaders and communications/government relations staff
Requirements
- 10+ years of progressively senior experience in government relations, public policy, communications, and/or partnerships/development, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in economics, business, environmental studies, public policy, political science, communications, not-for-profit management or fundraising, or a related field
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with senior government officials and translate policy environments into organizational strategy
- Proven success securing and stewarding significant corporate, philanthropic, or blended-finance partnerships
- Excellent written, public speaking, and media/stakeholder communication skills
- Knowledge of or strong affinity for systems-change, multi-stakeholder coalitions, market-building, and relevant economy, environment, climate change, and social wellbeing issues
- Experience in decentralized, multi-stakeholder, or federated organizations
- Applicants must be authorized to work in Canada and currently reside in Canada
- Bilingual proficiency in English/French is a strong asset
