About the role

  • Senior Software Engineer building GPU-accelerated visualization for GeoSoftware's large geoscience datasets. Designing responsive React and WebGL interfaces with reactive state and multi-view coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Build hardware-accelerated views over datasets far larger than memory using progressive, tile-based and level-of-detail loading
  • Implement 2D and 3D scientific visualization, including section and map views, volumetric display, quality-control plots and cross-plots
  • Collaborate with data and compute engineers on chunked read paths for large-dataset rendering
  • Profile rendering and interaction performance and optimize based on measurement
  • Design the application's state and event architecture, including subscription, dependency tracking and invalidation across multiple views
  • Ensure changes to data, long-running job state and user parameters propagate automatically without reloads or unnecessary re-rendering
  • Implement cross-view coordination such as linked selection, interactive highlighting and shared cursors
  • Build split, tabbed, floating and docked multi-view layouts
  • Express application actions and state as structured, serializable operations for automation and direct interaction
  • Generate forms, dialogs and property editors from parameter definitions
  • Design internal interfaces and extension points for new analysis views
  • Work in short iterations with continuous integration, code review and agreed acceptance criteria
  • Collaborate with geoscience experts to turn numerical output into interpretable results
  • Contribute to the technical direction of a small team and document important decisions

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, physics, mathematics or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • Minimum 5 years of professional software engineering experience, a substantial part of it on complex, data-heavy front-end applications
  • Demonstrable React and TypeScript experience in a production codebase
  • Hands-on WebGL, or equivalent GPU-accelerated browser rendering experience
  • Experience designing event-driven or reactive state architecture in a large application
  • Able to work effectively in a small, remote, multi-timezone team, writing things down, communicating asynchronously and operating without close supervision
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Strong React and TypeScript knowledge, including rendering performance and reconciliation
  • Event-driven and reactive architecture experience, including observer and publish/subscribe patterns, dependency and invalidation graphs, state ownership, and subscription lifecycle
  • Experience with live, server-driven state such as WebSocket, server-sent events or change feeds, including reconnection, replay and consistency
  • Real WebGL experience with shaders, buffer management, texture streaming and instancing
  • Interactive rendering of large scientific or geospatial datasets, including streaming and level-of-detail techniques
  • Fluency with profiling tools and performance optimization
  • Strong written English and asynchronous documentation skills
  • Ownership and self-direction
  • Pragmatic judgment about complexity
  • Attention to detail and performance
  • Collaboration across disciplines
  • Technical expertise in front-end engineering and scientific visualization
  • Alignment with company interest
