Responsibilities

  • Own the technical direction and architecture of Tailscale’s next-generation web console
  • Build frontend infrastructure and platform capabilities for a unified console experience
  • Develop identity-adjacent frontend systems, including authentication, session management, secure cross-origin integrations, and multi-service product surfaces
  • Define application structure, routing, state boundaries, shared abstractions, and maintainability practices
  • Design and maintain cross-origin authentication and session infrastructure, including auth flows, CORS, CSRF protections, cookies, sessions, and deployment environments
  • Build and operate a frontend serving platform hosting multiple Tailscale products
  • Establish shared infrastructure, conventions, and design patterns
  • Create tooling and abstractions enabling non-frontend engineers to build accessible, production-quality UI
  • Partner with Product Design on intuitive user experiences
  • Collaborate with Growth, Design, Product, and engineering teams on experimentation, analytics, A/B testing, and feature rollouts
  • Define frontend testing strategy, integration testing, end-to-end coverage, developer ergonomics, and testing abstractions
  • Improve local development workflows, build pipelines, preview deployments, release ergonomics, and operational reliability
  • Provide technical leadership, reviews, mentoring, and platform guardrails
  • Participate in the on-call rotation to triage and mitigate incidents

Requirements

  • Deep experience building and operating production React applications at scale
  • Strong understanding of HTTP semantics, browser security boundaries, authentication flows, cookies, storage, CORS, and CSRF
  • Experience building internal platforms, frameworks, or shared libraries
  • Experience driving a unified console or platform vision across disparate frontend codebases
  • Strong frontend architecture judgment
  • Experience designing scalable frontend testing strategies
  • Collaboration across design, growth, infrastructure, and developer tooling
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • High degree of ownership and autonomy
  • Required participation in an on-call rotation
  • Nice to have: experience with AI-assisted frontend development, design systems, component libraries, feature flagging, analytics, experimentation, progressive delivery, identity, admin, B2B SaaS, or security-sensitive product surfaces

Benefits

  • Base salary, equity incentive plan, and variable commission for quota-based roles
  • Comprehensive group benefits with no waiting period, including health, vision, and dental coverage for employees and families
