About the role

  • Contract Manager leading complex hydroelectric project contracts for GE Vernova’s energy business in British Columbia. Managing commercial risk, negotiations, changes, claims, and disputes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead contractual management of major hydroelectric projects from bidding and negotiation through execution, close-out, and warranty
  • Develop and implement project-specific contractual strategies aligned with objectives, risks, obligations, and opportunities
  • Draft, review, and tailor commercial and contractual clauses
  • Participate in negotiating and finalizing contracts, amendments, change orders, and other commercial arrangements
  • Prepare contractual notices, amendments, change submissions, claims, and formal communications
  • Ensure project teams understand and apply contractual rights, responsibilities, and obligations
  • Collaborate with Project Directors and cross-functional teams on mitigation measures and opportunity plans
  • Analyze contracts to identify risks, opportunities, deviations, assumptions, and areas requiring ongoing attention
  • Develop and maintain contract management plans
  • Lead strategies for changes, claims, dispute avoidance, and dispute resolution
  • Manage contractual notices, changes, claims, disputes, and insurance-related matters
  • Coordinate major claims and disputes with Project Leadership, Legal, Finance, and other functions
  • Advise project teams on contractual issues and commercial decision-making
  • Track contractual commitments and communicate contractual information across project organizations
  • Participate in project risk and opportunity reviews
  • Monitor contractual compliance and document deviations
  • Maintain tools and records for obligations, milestones, notices, changes, claims, correspondence, and decisions
  • Provide regular contractual risk assessments and updates to project and functional leadership
  • Serve as a senior contractual advisor and provide guidance to less-experienced contract management professionals
  • Support hydroelectric projects primarily in British Columbia and potentially elsewhere in Western Canada

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction, Quantity Surveying, Business, Finance, Law, or a related technical or commercial discipline
  • Minimum of eight years of demonstrated contract management experience in complex project environments such as EPC, construction, infrastructure, energy, power generation, or other major industrial sectors
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Canadian energy or infrastructure sector
  • Experience working with public utilities, public-sector organizations, or other sophisticated infrastructure customers
  • Ability to compile, structure, draft, and manage complex, high-value amendments, changes, claims, and contractual submissions
  • Strong understanding of project financial considerations, including costs, margins, risks, opportunities, and cash impact
  • Ability to analyze, structure, and solve complex contractual and commercial problems
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills
  • Proactive working style, strong sense of ownership, and willingness to recommend and implement improvements
  • Strong written and spoken English skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 15–25%
  • Strong experience managing turnkey EPC projects or other complex project delivery models
  • Experience in hydropower, power generation, major infrastructure, construction, or complex industrial-project environments
  • Experience administering major equipment supply, installation, consortium, or subcontracting arrangements
  • Sound judgment regarding contractual and commercial risk
  • Experience managing significant changes, claims, insurance matters, or disputes
  • Experience managing multiple priorities in a dynamic project environment
  • Experience working within a complex global or matrixed organization
  • Ability to communicate contractual risk, commercial exposure, and recommended strategy clearly to senior project and business leaders
  • Ability to influence teams and stakeholders without direct reporting authority
  • Experience coaching or providing guidance to less-experienced contract management professionals
