About the role

  • Interim philanthropy manager supporting Khan Academy’s major-gifts portfolio, donor writing, and prospect research. Advancing fundraising for the nonprofit’s free, world-class education platform.

Responsibilities

  • Provide behind-the-scenes portfolio management for major individual giving, driving relationship strategy and securing gifts
  • Prepare C-suite executives and philanthropic leadership for major-donor meetings with briefings, pre-read decks, suggested strategies, and follow-up
  • Track and manage the Chief of External Relations’ end-of-year donor outreach, follow-up status, and next steps
  • Coordinate donor outreach email by triaging messages, drafting responses, and flagging replies requiring attention
  • Maintain accurate donor activities and updates in Salesforce (SFDC)
  • Adapt concept notes, proposals, and donor reports for individual-giving opportunities
  • Convey strategic priorities and narrative consistent with Khan Academy’s voice, mission, and prior donor communications
  • Coordinate, analyze, and present performance metrics for donor reports
  • Submit donor reports, proposals, and related materials for review and approval
  • Research major-gift and mid-level prospects using prospecting tools and public information, including AI-sector IPOs and liquidity events
  • Cross-reference prospect lists with existing donor, prospect, and email records and deliver a prioritized prospect list supporting the wealth-wave strategy

Requirements

  • 7+ years of demonstrated experience in philanthropy, major gifts fundraising, and individual giving
  • Ability to manage fundraising operations, moves management systems, and donor pipeline development strategies
  • Exceptional written communication skills and experience crafting donor communications, briefings, proposals, and reports
  • Experience preparing, briefing, and supporting executive leaders and board members for high-level donor engagements
  • Experience using prospecting and wealth screening tools and public information to identify and prioritize major-gift prospects
  • Strong interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration and leadership dynamics
  • Demonstrated success raising six-figure-plus gifts
  • Understanding of major gifts, donor pipelines, wealth screening/wealth-wave strategies, and moves management processes
  • Ability to quickly absorb an organization’s strategy, priorities, and narrative
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent work streams within a blended 40-hour-per-week cap and adapt to changing deadlines
  • Deep passion for Khan Academy’s mission
