About the role

  • Senior Contract Manager leading contract strategy, risk, claims and negotiations for GE Vernova's Canadian hydroelectric projects. Managing commercial interests from bid through execution, close-out and warranty.

Responsibilities

  • Lead contractual strategy for significant Canadian hydroelectric projects from bid through execution, close-out and warranty
  • Protect and strengthen GE Vernova's commercial position through contract execution, risk mitigation and opportunity development
  • Partner with project leadership on changes, claims strategy, customer and supplier interfaces, and key commercial decisions
  • Manage contractual aspects of assigned projects from bid preparation through execution, close-out and warranty
  • Draft, review and tailor commercial clauses based on project requirements and the applicable contractual framework
  • Negotiate and finalize contracts, amendments and other commercial arrangements with customers, partners, suppliers and subcontractors
  • Ensure project teams understand and apply contractual obligations
  • Prepare notices, amendments, change submissions, claims and other contractual communications
  • Analyze contracts to identify risks, opportunities, deviations and key watchpoints
  • Develop, maintain and improve contract management plans
  • Lead strategies for changes, claims, dispute avoidance and dispute resolution with project leadership and Legal
  • Flow down contractual requirements to supplier and subcontractor agreements where applicable
  • Manage contractual notices, changes, claims, disputes and insurance matters
  • Collaborate with project, commercial, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, finance, sourcing and other internal stakeholders
  • Advise teams on contractual issues and contribute to decision-making
  • Track contractual commitments and communicate requirements across projects
  • Participate in risk and opportunity reviews and drive mitigation and opportunity-capture plans
  • Provide contractual risk assessments and updates through governance processes
  • Maintain relationships with customers, suppliers, subcontractors and partners
  • Mentor and coach less experienced contract management professionals
  • Ensure compliance with contractual terms and document deviations
  • Maintain traceable contractual records and key decisions
  • Coordinate major claims with Legal and recommend solutions to complex issues
  • Establish procedures for correspondence, notices, insurance, delays, variations and claims documentation
  • Maintain complete and timely contractual records and supporting documentation
  • Establish tracking tools for obligations, milestones and contractual events

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, Quantity Surveying, Business, Finance, Law or a related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of contract management experience in complex project environments such as EPC, construction, infrastructure, energy or major industrial sectors
  • Demonstrated ability to compile, structure, negotiate and draft complex, high-value amendments, changes and claims
  • Strong understanding of project financial drivers, including costs, margins, risks, opportunities and cash impact, and their relationship to contract management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability and willingness to travel within Canada as required
  • Experience in hydropower, power generation, major infrastructure or complex industrial project environments preferred
  • Strong experience managing turnkey or EPC projects preferred
  • Experience with major equipment supply, installation, consortium or other complex project delivery models preferred
  • Experience working with utility, public-sector or major institutional customers in Canada preferred
  • Experience managing significant claims, dispute avoidance or dispute matters preferred
  • French language capability preferred
  • Leadership capability and interest in future functional leadership opportunities preferred
  • Strong commercial mindset and sound business judgment
