About the role

  • BI Developer designing and supporting analytics solutions for Giant Tiger's retail operations. Collaborating across teams and utilizing advanced BI tools and technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support BI, reporting, dashboard, semantic layer, and analytics solutions using approved BI, data warehouse, and cloud analytics platforms.
  • Gather and translate business requirements into scalable BI, data, and analytics deliverables that support business goals and a single version of the truth.
  • Write, validate, troubleshoot, and optimize complex SQL and BigQuery/GCP solutions to support reporting, analysis, reconciliation, data quality, and governed reporting.
  • Develop and support BI platform objects, datasets, dashboards, visualizations, metrics, filters, prompts, semantic models, and other analytics components.
  • Complete development tasks according to defined performance, cost, security, governance, data quality, and tool standards.
  • Deliver assigned work within agreed timelines, ensuring solutions meet business requirements and technical quality expectations.
  • Follow SDLC, Change Management, deployment, documentation, and DevOps procedures as defined by the team and organization.
  • Create and execute technical testing, data validation, reconciliation, and production readiness activities.
  • Monitor, tune, support, troubleshoot, and improve BI and data environments, including reports, dashboards, data refreshes, SQL performance, BigQuery cost/performance, data quality, standards, procedures, and operational reliability.
  • Escalate delays, risks, blockers, and business-impacting issues to the appropriate project lead, manager, or support team.
  • Apply automation, Python, JavaScript, AI, conversational analytics, and agent-based technologies where appropriate to improve analytics delivery, operational support, and business user experience.
  • Collaborate with business, BI, data, integration, infrastructure, security, and vendor teams to support reliable, scalable, and governed analytics solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience developing, maintaining, and supporting BI, reporting, analytics, or data warehouse solutions.
  • 5+ years of experience writing, validating, troubleshooting, and optimizing SQL queries, views, joins, aggregations, and data transformations.
  • 3+ years of experience developing dashboards, reports, datasets, semantic layers, metrics, filters, prompts, and visualizations using enterprise BI tools.
  • 3+ years of experience with data warehouse concepts, dimensional modelling, data quality, reconciliation, governance, and production BI support.
  • 2+ years experience translating business requirements into scalable BI, data, and analytics solutions.
  • 2+ years experience with SDLC, change management, testing, documentation, deployment, and Waterfall and/or Agile methodologies.
  • Experience recommending data-related standards, procedures, models, and solutions used to collect, organize, store, retrieve, and deliver information.
  • Experience monitoring, tuning, and improving BI and data environments, including performance, usage, data refreshes, query efficiency, reliability, and operational support.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform, especially BigQuery, is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with MicroStrategy / Strategy, Looker, Python, JavaScript, AI, conversational analytics, or agent-based solutions is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Customer Data Platforms, customer analytics, loyalty data, personalization, customer segmentation, or related customer data capabilities is considered an asset.
  • Retail, merchandising, ecommerce, supply chain, inventory, finance, customer analytics, or Merchandise Management System experience is considered an asset.
