About the role
- Engineering Manager building and leading high-performing Ruby on Rails teams at Zipline. Driving AI adoption and fostering team growth in a remote-first environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage and coach a team of software engineers delivering secure, scalable features for Zipline's enterprise customers.
- Partner with Product and Design to scope, prioritize, and deliver solutions.
- Own a technical debt roadmap for your teams, identifying and sequencing debt reduction work.
- Drive adoption of AI and agentic development workflows within your teams.
- Build and maintain team processes that support async, remote-first collaboration.
- Represent your teams to engineering leadership and cross-functional partners.
- Recruit, hire, and retain strong engineers, fostering a collaborative environment.
- Pay attention to team health, individual wellbeing, and career growth.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in an engineering management role, leading teams of senior individual contributors.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails at production scale.
- Demonstrated proficiency with AI-assisted and agentic development workflows.
- Maintain a technical debt roadmap and balance debt reduction against feature delivery.
- Coaching and growing engineers, with a track record of promotions and career progression.
- Clear and compelling communication skills, especially in a remote-first company.
- Experience in designing and operating distributed systems, APIs, and web applications.
