Assistant Controller responsible for automating accounting functions at Hopper while overseeing external audits and technical accounting. A builder role aimed at improving financial operations through technology.
Responsibilities
Own technical accounting research and draft memos covering ASC 470 (convertible notes, warrants), ASC 606, ASC 842, stock‑based compensation, accounting for new products, and complex equity and financing transactions
Lead global external audit management for all entities, acting as the primary point of contact with external auditors
Design and implement the internal control framework and drive SOX readiness
Oversee GAAP quality and compliance of the monthly close, identify gaps and exceptions, and uphold high standards within the accounting operations team
Manage multi‑entity, multi‑currency consolidation, intercompany reconciliations, and transfer pricing compliance

Build and automate the reconciliation framework between management reporting and GAAP numbers

Oversee accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and treasury operations teams
Requirements
10+ years of progressive accounting experience with demonstrated ability to operate at a management level

Proven experience as the primary point of contact during external audits, not merely as a file preparer
Hands‑on experience drafting technical accounting memos on complex topics
Experience designing internal controls and SOX compliance
Experience designing systems and automating processes — you’ve built processes, not just maintained them
Automation-first mindset and genuine comfort with AI tools
