- National Bureau Chief shaping Financial Post coverage of Canadian business and the economy. Leading Ontario and Quebec reporters while developing national editorial franchises and multimedia products.
Responsibilities
- Work with regional bureau chiefs to identify priorities and compile a daily schedule of stories
- Monitor sister publications for business and economic coverage that may resonate with a national audience
- Direct reporters based in Ontario and Quebec on regional economies, including automotive and critical minerals
- Set coverage priorities, develop story ideas, assign and direct daily stories, and provide timely, constructive editing
- Contribute to video, podcast and other multimedia offerings
- Develop and oversee editorial products such as newsletters and in-person events in Ontario and Quebec
- Maintain editorial standards for accuracy, fairness, insight and relevance
- Build national editorial franchises covering Canadian business and the economy
- Contribute to broader newsroom leadership and assist with editorial oversight and other priorities
Requirements
- At least five years in a daily newsroom
- Ideally a background in business, financial or economic journalism
- Excellent news judgment
- Ability to quickly identify stories, trends and developments important to readers
- Understanding of the forces driving news and what comes next
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Ability to work quickly and accurately under tight deadlines
- Comfort working across breaking news, daily analysis, explanatory journalism, enterprise reporting and long-form features
- Strong understanding of Canadian business and the economy
- Collaborative leadership skills
- Ability to work effectively with reporters, editors and newsroom leaders
