About the role
- Engineering Manager leading remote engineers building pharmacy, clinic, and patient-program technology. Managing technical delivery for Maisha Meds’ healthcare platform across Africa.
Responsibilities
- Manage a remote team of 3–6 engineers across several projects
- Initially manage the patient programs projects team and eventually start a new team for new projects
- Foster a welcoming and friendly culture
- Grow and mentor engineers and support their career interests
- Provide feedback for performance management and coaching
- Recruit and hire team members when necessary
- Provide hands-on technical leadership in architecture, design, code reviews, and incident management
- Independently contribute to projects 20% of the time
- Engage directly with stakeholders and product-manage when needed
- Translate ambiguous stakeholder desires into concrete requirements and action plans
- Work across teams and internal and external stakeholders to execute projects
- Understand customers and users and provide product direction
- Report to the Chief Technology Officer
Requirements
- Experience managing and mentoring engineers
- Experience providing technical leadership in architecture and design, code reviews, and incident management
- Ability to independently contribute technically to projects approximately 20% of the time
- Preferred prior experience with Ruby on Rails
- Preferred DevOps experience with AWS infrastructure
- Experience working at startups and mature tech organizations is a plus
- Experience in both B2B and B2C environments is a plus
- Prior experience in healthcare and/or Africa is a plus
- Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, Vue.js, and Android Kotlin
- Ability to work with stakeholders to translate ambiguous needs into concrete requirements and action plans
- Ability to understand customers and users and provide product direction
