About the role
- Engineering Manager leading Mercury’s banking account services and senior engineering team. Building reliable systems for customer account management and money movement.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of 4 to 8 senior engineers to deliver high-availability banking services
- Translate company and product direction into clear, measurable team objectives
- Build a predictable delivery system that makes progress, risks, and tradeoffs visible
- Balance customer-facing improvements with platform reliability, operational readiness, and long-term maintainability
- Partner with Product, Design, Risk, Compliance, and Operations to make Mercury’s banking products reliable, understandable, and useful
- Hire and onboard engineers while maintaining a consistent, high-quality interview process
- Hold the team accountable for responsible use of AI-assisted development, including testing, evaluation, review, and production safeguards
- Give clear, useful feedback to engineers at every level
- Create an environment where engineers can do their best work and grow technical and leadership skills
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to lead a technical team
- Experience building or operating reliable financial, banking, payments, or other high-integrity systems
- Comfort working across product, policy, infrastructure, and operational boundaries
- Ability to turn ambiguous problems into clear decisions, owners, and execution plans
- Strong technical judgment and ability to engage deeply with system design and implementation
- Experience developing senior engineers and creating opportunities for engineers to lead
- Deep care for correctness, reliability, customer experience, and operational excellence
- Familiarity with Haskell and TypeScript, or interest in learning them
