Civil Inspector ensuring quality in utility and infrastructure projects. Involves inspections, quality assurance, and documentation for civil works in Western Canada.
Responsibilities
Inspection of installed structures and related civil work through all stages of construction and/or repair to ensure the work is completed in compliance with Client Standards, designs, specifications, and quality requirements.
Conducting quality assurance inspections of civil works, such as underground duct banks, ditch infills, dike construction/modifications, pilasters, culvert/bridge installations and various concrete structures.
Write detailed reports, including pre-job meeting guide, daily inspection report, non-standard report, photos, marked drawings, and civil completion certificate, submitted within 24 hours of completing the inspection.
Hold pre-construction meeting with the civil contractor to review the design drawings, Client standards/specifications, and site at the start of the project.
Identify non-conformances during inspection, document, and communicate non-conformances with the Contractor.
Act as field delegate of the Client’s Designer and/or Professional Engineer, performing field reviews and coordinating field-related design issues with the Designer/Engineer.
Requirements
Minimum education of High school diploma. Preference will be given to candidates who hold a technical diploma, trade certification, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in civil underground infrastructure construction.
Experience inspecting civil underground infrastructure is an asset.
Registration with ASTTBC as an Applied Science Technologist or Certified Public Worker is an asset.
Ability to read structural/civil/utility drawings and interpret the information with respect to impact to design/construction drawings.
Intermediate MS Office and computer skills for email correspondence and write professional reports.
Well-developed planning and organizational to coordinate daily schedule and organize project files.
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills in English
Must be willing to travel and work outdoors in all weather conditions on construction sites
Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
A clean criminal record check.
