About the role

  • Engineering Manager leading distributed teams improving Mozilla Firefox Desktop user experiences. Driving frontend innovation, quality software delivery, and cross-functional collaboration for an open-source browser.

Responsibilities

  • Direct a geographically distributed team of engineers improving the Firefox Desktop user experience
  • Drive initiatives delivering high-quality, highly available, monitored, and maintainable software
  • Navigate trade-offs and align teams across a portfolio of browser user experiences
  • Communicate team goals, project scope, risks, and delivery timelines
  • Build and iterate engineering processes supporting a high-performing team
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones covering technical work and professional development
  • Provide direct performance feedback and support developers throughout the developer lifecycle
  • Create an inclusive environment that engages and challenges team members
  • Collaborate with Product, UX, QA, Operations, and Data Science teams

Requirements

  • 4+ years leading engineers in a software development environment and working across multiple distributed teams
  • Software engineering background enabling technical decision-making and engagement with engineers at all seniority levels
  • Experience leading multiple concurrent projects
  • Previous experience with frontend platform initiatives, such as design systems and frontend architectural improvements
  • Track record delivering front-end experiences to user-facing products
  • Hands-on experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Proven record leading and shipping sophisticated user-facing experiences on time using data to inform timelines
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to resolve problems, manage risk, lead change, and facilitate collaborative decision-making
  • Experience communicating with senior leadership and advocating for engineering priorities
  • Desire to grow as a manager and develop others
  • Ability to hire, mentor, empower, develop, and delegate to geographically distributed team members
