About the role

  • Quality Assurance Analyst reviewing Canadian mortgage applications for compliance, fraud, and underwriting risks. Supporting audits and advising nesto’s mortgage technology and financing business.

Responsibilities

  • Review a daily sample of mortgage applications, both pre-funding and post-funding, for compliance with nesto Group policies, underwriting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assess file data, financial documents, client information, broker and insurer communications, and legal documentation to identify deviations from policy.
  • Identify unusual behavior, suspicious transactions, and invalid documentation using insurer “Heads Up Files” and internal referrals.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations and take necessary action on suspect files to mitigate misrepresentation risk and potential loss.
  • Prepare QA reports with findings and recommendations, and perform further analysis as directed by Risk or QA Management.
  • Support partner, investor, and insurer audits from preparation through resolution of findings.
  • Assist in the management, periodic control, and review of approved lists and AML lists.
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews regularly, promptly, efficiently, and objectively.
  • Provide guidance, opinions, and recommendations to underwriting staff and stakeholders on credit issues, loss mitigation, flood/property risk, and training opportunities.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years minimum experience in mortgage approval/adjudication.
  • Experience with the mortgage broker channel is an asset/preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, SharePoint).
  • Proficient in Google Workspace (Drive, Sheets, Docs).
  • Experience with CRM and workflow tools, including Salesforce.
  • Strong understanding of insurer guidelines, both internal and external.
  • Practical knowledge of fraud implications, detection methods, and prevention techniques.
  • Analytical thinking and negotiation/problem-solving skills to spot trends and anomalies in underwriting practices.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize urgent requests.
  • Willingness and ability to make unpopular recommendations when required.
  • Fluent bilingualism (French and English) preferred.
  • Excellent ability to communicate findings to management and underwriters.
