About the role

  • Co-op Internship at Nutrien focused on Automation and AI-driven capabilities for IT Operations. Collaborating to enhance efficiency and modernize technology practices.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Automation & Monitoring team in building new automation, and AI‑driven capabilities for the IT Operations Center
  • Work with engineers to identify processes that can be automated and help design, prototype, and develop those solutions
  • Build dashboards, integrations, and monitoring components that improve reliability and visibility of services
  • Assist in developing AI agents and automated workflows for IT teams, with early focus areas in network and security operations
  • Participate in team discussions, backlog reviews, and sprint planning sessions to understand work prioritization and delivery practices
  • Collaborate with IT Operations, Infrastructure, Security, and Application teams to gather requirements and turn ideas into working solutions
  • Document automation workflows, technical steps, and how‑to guides to support operational teams
  • Learn modern engineering practices such as scripting, orchestration, monitoring principles, and AI prompt engineering.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical program, with at least two years of study completed
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a genuine interest in automation, monitoring, observability, and AI‑assisted operations
  • Foundational knowledge of at least one programming or scripting language (Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, etc.)
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and an eagerness to learn new tools and technologies
  • Self-starter with the ability to take initiative and nurture projects forward
  • Demonstrated positive safety behavior and safety leadership
  • Willingness to learn and gain knowledge and experience through training
  • Excellent interpersonal teamwork and communication skills
  • Motivation to set and achieve goals, take initiative, and nurture projects forward
  • Ability to work collaboratively, ask good questions, and communicate clearly with technical and non‑technical team members
  • Interest in exploring modern IT tooling—such as monitoring platforms, automation frameworks, cloud services, or AI tools.
