About the role

  • Senior Engineering Manager leading Automation and AI Team for General Motors. Driving innovative solutions and managing team capabilities to optimize engineering tools and systems.

Responsibilities

  • People leadership, manage established teams with the optimal mix of talent and experience.
  • Makes internal and external staffing decisions, supports, and guides individual development of direct reports and their teams, drives performance to deliverables.
  • Execution leadership, manage established teams focused on AI, data analytics, simulation, and automation frameworks for hardware, software, and system design and development.
  • Develop the vision, product roadmap, and execution plan for the team, working closely with other parts of the organization to ensure strategic alignment focusing on 4 critical pillars: Cloud Infrastructure, Deployment Automation Pipeline, AI Agent Development, Anomaly Detection.
  • Set priorities, remove roadblocks, and communicate impacts.
  • Foster a culture of innovation by prototyping new data-driven solutions that align with evolving goals and future-proof technology stacks.
  • Proactively engaged in the team’s day-to-day work and allocate team tasks reasonably according to project objectives and ensuring delivery according to milestones.
  • Provides technical leadership to working team.
  • Interacts and collaborates with many teams cross-functionally.
  • Leads team on new methods or initiatives without defined procedures.
  • Develop team’s capabilities and provide mentorship to team members.
  • Insures employees complete all mandatory GM training and any specific training related to functional responsibility.
  • Understands & supports employee's career development goals.
  • Develops and executes initiatives to improve work team capability and increase work team capacity.
  • Develop and manage the team’s travel, training, and indirect budget.
  • Keep abreast with industry landscape and tools used in AI and data science to ensure we are using state-of-the-art tools.
  • Participate in regular process improvement, management forums, and transformational initiatives.
  • Reviews and approves employee work and overtime schedules, expenses, and other work-related data.
  • Reviews deliverables and provides candid & constructive feedback.
  • Conducts performance interventions when necessary.
  • Oversee the use of data analytics and signal processing to analyze simulation output data using techniques such as wavelet transforms and motif discovery.
  • Guide the development of custom feature extraction methods for predictive modeling to be utilized in optimizations.
  • Implement statistical methods, anomaly detection, and clustering to uncover patterns within large-scale data sets.
  • Collaborate with team experts to incorporate physical interpretations of insights and create interactive data visualizations for effective communication.
  • Drive the building of machine learning models that can serve as surrogates in simulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent majors required.
  • Masters Degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in software or tools development.
  • 5+ years of people management experience.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively cross functionally.
  • Strong team management and people development skills.
  • Experience with Automotive SW development process.
  • Knowledge of Full-Stack AI Deployment (e.g. scalable ML pipelines (MLOps) using Docker, Kubernetes, FastAPI, cloud services, or other modern toolsets).
