About the role
- Embedded Software Engineer developing embedded and Lua software for ORBCOMM’s IoT Smart Tracking products. Building terminal applications, troubleshooting defects, and expanding automated testing.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain embedded software components supporting Smart Tracking products
- Learn and apply Lua to develop and enhance product functionality
- Implement targeted software features under senior team guidance
- Translate defined requirements into working software solutions
- Become proficient in the Lua software environment and associated development tools
- Develop terminal applications based on functional requirements
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve software defects
- Identify impacted services and implement fixes
- Learn and use the automated regression testing framework
- Create and maintain automated test cases
- Participate in manual and automated testing to ensure reliability and performance
- Support continuous improvement of testing processes and coverage
- Collaborate with developers, testers, and cross-functional stakeholders
- Participate in code reviews, team discussions, and development planning
- Build knowledge of ORBCOMM products, systems, and development practices through hands-on learning and mentorship
- Contribute to objectives supporting the Smart Tracking application roadmap
- Report to the Director, Modem Software
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience developing software applications using modern programming languages
- Knowledge of software development fundamentals, debugging techniques, and troubleshooting methodologies
- Understanding of embedded software development principles
- Experience working in Linux or similar development environments
- Familiarity with software testing concepts and automated testing practices
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly and apply them effectively
- Experience with Lua programming is preferred
- Experience developing terminal or command-line applications is preferred
- Exposure to regression testing frameworks or automated test development is preferred
- Experience working on IoT, telecommunications, tracking, or connected-device products is preferred
- Ability to leverage AI-enabled tools and automation to support daily tasks and productivity
