About the role

  • Software engineering manager leading distributed Payments teams at Phreesia, a healthcare SaaS company. Delivering secure, reliable payment products while managing people, projects, testing, and cloud-based systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a distributed team of software engineers, QA professionals, and SDETs within the Payments domain
  • Recruit, onboard, and manage software engineers, QA professionals, and SDETs
  • Set performance expectations and provide feedback, coaching, and mentorship
  • Participate in roadmap planning and execution with engineering and product leadership
  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver multiple concurrent workstreams
  • Monitor execution against roadmap commitments and identify risks, dependencies, and resource constraints
  • Provide leadership on testing strategies, quality assurance, and automated testing
  • Manage escalations and unplanned work, including production defects and product requests
  • Coordinate recurring team and workstream meetings and communicate decisions, ownership, dependencies, and follow-up actions
  • Remove obstacles and foster accountability and autonomy to enable fast, reliable delivery
  • Build a collaborative, inclusive, supportive, high-performance team culture
  • Coordinate with product management, architects, and engineers to design, build, and maintain payment products
  • Champion software quality, security, testing, operational reliability, and AI-assisted development practices

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
  • 7+ years of experience building or supporting highly distributed applications
  • Significant experience with Microsoft .NET/C# or Java systems
  • Experience connecting systems to SQL Server, MongoDB, NoSQL databases, and cloud systems
  • 3+ years of experience in people management within software engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in project management delivering successful releases
  • 3+ years of experience building or supporting software within the U.S. payments industry and payment processing
  • Working knowledge of the U.S. payments ecosystem, including payment processors, card networks, ACH payments, and applicable security and compliance requirements
  • Strong technical and non-technical communication skills
  • Experience managing contractors and vendors
  • Experience rolling out and using AI tools to improve team productivity and delivery
  • Experience with Microsoft .NET/C#, SQL Server, MongoDB, Redis, AWS, Azure, RESTful APIs, RabbitMQ, MSMQ, and NServiceBus
