About the role

  • Lead Electrical Engineer designing and analyzing oil and gas facility electrical systems in project teams. Responsible for electrical system design, troubleshooting, and mentoring less experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a project team environment with other engineers and designers
  • Design, modify, and analyze new and existing oil and gas facility electrical systems
  • Support the design of power plants and other industrial facilities
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve a wide variety of electrical engineering issues
  • Lead efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget
  • Coordinate systems design activities to ensure installation and operations will comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements
  • Prepare and review detailed calculations, including three phase power transient studies, voltage drop, and protective relay settings
  • Prepare documentation for design input for drawing production
  • Interface with vendors to prepare materials and equipment purchase specifications for client recommendations
  • Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements and S&L formats
  • Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations and drawing preparation
  • Provide guidance as a mentor in the development of less experienced engineers.

Requirements

  • A BSEE degree from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board - accredited undergraduate program or a US based ABET-accredited program
  • 10+ years of experience in power plant or industrial plant design, with a focus on integrated, detailed system design for new facilities, or modifications or replacements for existing facilities specific for Oil and Gas
  • Experience in the selection of equipment, materials, control philosophy, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications
  • Experience with electrical system design including medium and low voltage distribution systems (transformers, generators, motors), communication systems, equipment selection, and analytical calculations
  • Technically knowledgeable of available equipment and proven pre-engineered systems to execute systems design
  • Experience with serving as firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role
  • Experience in reviewing other engineers design calculations and drawings.
