Intermediate Social Researcher/Project Manager supporting Indigenous Nations in social research and community development. Focused on ethical collaboration and integrating Indigenous Knowledge with research.
Responsibilities
Uphold organizational methodologies, research design standards, and best practices to support the development and delivery of social research studies (e.g., land use and occupancy research / Indigenous Knowledge studies, socio‑economic impact assessments) using ethical, respectful, and culturally appropriate approaches.
Conduct primary research activities, including interviews, surveys, and focus groups, ensuring high-quality data collection.
Integrate qualitative and quantitative social research findings with geospatial analysis to inform evidence‑based decision-making.
Adhere to data privacy, governance, and ethical standards, including OCAP®/OCAS, PIPA, informed consent procedures, and client‑specific protocols.
Apply knowledge of Canadian impact assessment frameworks and regulatory processes to support client objectives.
Potentially deliver and support training and capacity‑building initiatives related to social research methodologies and conducting social research studies.
Prepare clear, concise reports and presentations that translate technical and research insights into plain-language narratives for diverse audiences.
Oversee project plans, timelines, and budgets while maintaining clear communication with clients and internal teams.
Coordinate interdisciplinary teams, manage risks, and ensure transparency throughout the project lifecycle.
Build strong working relationships with Indigenous community clients, regulators, and project proponents.
Strengthen client relationships and support continuous improvement by understanding client needs and priorities.
Requirements
4-6 years of professional experience in a social research position, or related field
Undergraduate or graduate degree in social sciences (e.g. anthropology, human geography, sociology) or related field, or comparable practical experience
Experience with qualitative and quantitative research design, implementation, analysis and reporting; experience with Traditional Use / Indigenous Knowledge studies specifically is an asset.
Experience with desktop research / literature reviews / jurisdictional scans / annotated bibliographies or similar.
Understanding of Indigenous Knowledge Studies, Socio-Economic Impact Assessments, Community Well-being Studies and other research used to inform Impact Assessment processes in Canada
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word).
Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous Nations in Canada, with knowledge of Indigenous and environmental issues in Canada.
Experience developing and managing research Project budgets.
Excellent project management skills, capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Exceptional communication, organization, and attention to detail.
Collaborative team member who takes initiative and meets deadlines.
Willingness to travel across Canada, including to northern and remote communities and to work occasional overtime hours during work trips.
