About the role
- AI Engineer building AWS-based GenAI applications, RAG solutions, and intelligent agents for Sun Life’s financial security and health services. Collaborating across technology and business teams in a hybrid environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement solutions aligned with the platform capabilities roadmap
- Research and pilot the latest GenAI technologies and practices
- Champion continuous improvement, change, and innovation within the team
- Create and maintain technical design artifacts covering functionality, solution designs, data models, interfaces, and integrations
- Use and enhance DevOps practices and tools to enforce software guardrails and increase automation
- Help engineers build code faster, at lower cost and lower risk
- Stay current with cloud technologies, AWS services, and AI/ML advancements
- Provide post-production support, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and continuous improvement
- Collaborate with architects, product owners, data engineers, security and governance partners, and business stakeholders
- Deliver AI-powered applications, RAG solutions, intelligent agents, automation workflows, and reusable AI platform capabilities
- Collaborate in an Agile environment and communicate technical trade-offs
- Mentor junior team members
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 2+ years of professional software engineering experience
- 1+ years of building and operating solutions on AWS
- Hands-on expertise with Python, AWS Lambda, and APIs
- Experience developing AI bots/agents
- Familiarity with chatbot development concepts, RAG techniques, and vector databases
- Experience with DevOps culture, tools, and best practices
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to assess alternatives, risks, and benefits
- Reliability Status Clearance required before starting employment
- Satisfactory completion of applicable background checks before the start date and during employment
- Nice to have: Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases, Guardrails, Agents, or AgentCore experience
- Nice to have: Amazon OpenSearch Service, PostgreSQL with pgvector, or other enterprise vector-search technologies
- Nice to have: AWS Glue, data pipelines, PySpark, or analytics workloads
- Nice to have: relevant AWS certification
- Nice to have: Amazon QuickSight experience
