Part-time Controller owning accounting, revenue recognition, billing, budgeting, and SaaS metrics for SuperSummary’s literature platform. Supporting leadership decisions through forecasting, reporting, and financial analysis.
Responsibilities
Own the monthly close process and ensure accurate, timely financial statements
Manage revenue recognition under ASC 606 / IFRS 15, including deferred revenue, chargebacks, cancellations, and prior-period adjustments
Oversee ChargeBee and Stripe billing operations and subscription-data flows into the general ledger
Manage the bookkeeper and oversee bookkeeping, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger activity
Maintain audit-readiness and coordinate with external tax advisors on annual compliance
Build and document internal controls
Build annual budgets and rolling revenue forecasts
Conduct variance analysis and provide actionable insights
Track and report SaaS metrics including MRR, ARR, churn, LTV, CAC, payback period, and net dollar retention
Prepare leadership financial reporting, dashboards, and narrative commentary
Run monthly scenario modeling to support investment and cost decisions
Partner with the CEO, VP of Operations, department heads, and leadership team on financial and operational decisions
Support quarterly budget reviews, resource allocation, strategic initiatives, and long-range planning
Evaluate financial tools and workflows and automate manual processes, including AI-assisted reconciliation and reporting
Create runbooks and documentation for repeatable finance processes
Requirements
8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including meaningful SaaS or subscription-business experience
Controller-level ownership of monthly close, revenue recognition under ASC 606 or IFRS 15, and end-to-end financial statement preparation
Deep knowledge of revenue recognition, deferred revenue, subscription billing operations, and billing-data flows into the general ledger
Proficiency with ChargeBee, Stripe, Recurly, or similar subscription billing platforms
Proficiency with QuickBooks, Xero, or NetSuite
Budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial-modeling skills
Experience with consumer or self-serve subscription models
Experience at a startup or high-growth company under $25M in revenue
Strong English communication skills
Ability to communicate confidently with non-finance stakeholders and leadership
Ability to thrive in a fully remote environment
CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional certification, direct ChargeBee experience, and AI-tool proficiency are strong pluses
