About the role

  • Product engineering coordinator developing and launching manufacturable workplace products for Tayco. Coordinating design, prototyping, testing, documentation, suppliers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop creative engineering product solutions for product directional outlines, manufacturing improvement projects, customer quality claims, and installation issues
  • Incorporate technical advances in manufacturing processes and materials while understanding supplier capabilities
  • Evolve design concepts through modeling, prototyping, testing, and analysis; optimize function, appearance, and manufacturability
  • Develop accurate and detailed parts and assembly layouts
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to address market needs and customer expectations
  • Work with cross-disciplinary project teams to solve product function, manufacturability, compatibility, testing, and installation issues
  • Prepare technical documentation, including assembly and part drawings and specification sheets, using the common database and Tayco’s ISO procedures
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with applicable testing requirements, including BIFMA, CGSB, UL, CSA, UBC, and IBC
  • Coordinate fabrication of prototypes and pre-production products for design evolution, testing, showroom, and training needs
  • Assist with cost analysis, quote gathering, material-usage review, and value-engineering efforts
  • Design special products according to internal and industry standards
  • Liaise with third-party suppliers to source components and fabrication solutions
  • Conduct design reviews covering drawings, manufacturing processes, capability, efficiency, and quality plans
  • Provide documentation and information for product launches into full production
  • Contribute to new processes and tools that improve product development
  • Provide engineering expertise to other departments and support claims and warranty issues
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, standards, manufacturing, materials, technology, competitive products, engineering practices, environmental issues, and sustainable design
  • Achieve zero defects at launch through quality planning

Requirements

  • Mechanical Engineering degree, diploma or equivalent experience
  • P. Engineering License or Equivalent required
  • 5-7 years engineering experience in a product design and manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge and experience designing for a variety of manufacturing processes and materials, including sheet metal, plastic, glass, and wood
  • Good project and time management skills; experience handling multiple projects
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong 3D modeling and detail design using Solidworks or another parametric modeling program
  • Familiarity with ANSI/BIFMA standards
  • Experience with Solidworks PDM is preferred
  • Experience with ERP systems for engineering and manufacturing processes is preferred
  • Hands-on experience with prototype and model making
  • Very good verbal and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in diverse multidisciplinary team environments and independently with minimal supervision
