Responsibilities

Operate and maintain highly available PostgreSQL databases on AWS RDS supporting mission-critical financial systems
Safely execute complex SQL operations in production environments with a zero-downtime approach
Monitor database health and performance using CloudWatch, Grafana, and observability tools
Analyze query performance and implement optimizations, including indexing, partitioning, and schema improvements
Provide support and troubleshoot data replication and synchronization pipelines using tools such as AWS DMS and Fivetran
Manage and prioritize database-related operational requests during Eastern Time business hours
Participate in a shared on-call rotation to support critical production systems
Collaborate with data engineering and platform teams to ensure the reliability of downstream data pipelines and analytics systems
Contribute to operational standards and procedures to improve performance, scalability, security, and data integrity

More than 5 years of experience operating production PostgreSQL OLTP databases
Strong experience administering PostgreSQL on AWS RDS
Excellent proficiency in SQL query execution and optimization, indexing strategies, table partitioning, and schema design and evolution
Experience with PostgreSQL replication and backup strategies
Hands-on experience with database upgrades, patching, and restoration
Strong troubleshooting and incident management skills in high-traffic production environments
Excellent documentation and communication skills
Ability to take a methodical, disciplined approach when working with production data
