About the role
- Senior Backend Engineer building Vanta’s trust automation integrations platform. Designing scalable APIs, authentication, and data-ingestion primitives for over 400 integrations.
Responsibilities
- Set technical strategy and direction for critical platform surface areas
- Design and evolve APIs, primitives, and self-service golden paths for internal teams, partners, and customers
- Own authentication, data-ingestion, and schema-evolution primitives for secure, reliable integrations
- Build secure, documented, scalable backend services and developer tooling, including CI/CD
- Drive performance, operational excellence, and SDLC best practices
- Make and defend buy-vs-build and one-way-door decisions
- Mentor and uplevel teammates and establish standardized design patterns
- Build with TypeScript, React, and Node.js and use AI tools to accelerate development and workflows
- Develop the Integration Platform powering Vanta’s trust automation ecosystem and over 400 integrations
Requirements
- 8+ years of backend development building reliable, scalable, fault-tolerant systems
- Deep expertise in RESTful APIs, GraphQL, authentication protocols (OAuth, API keys, JWT), and security best practices
- Experience evolving core APIs, SDKs, and platform abstractions
- Experience building resilient data ingestion from external systems
- Experience with integrations across cloud providers, HRIS platforms, identity providers, and code repositories
- Knowledge of rate limiting, retries, idempotency, webhooks, and handling schema drift
- Experience designing for scale, reliability, and failure modes
- Experience leading teams and complex projects and influencing decisions across the organization
- Experience building sample integrations, POCs, AI Skills, documentation, and workshops
- Open to using AI responsibly to improve efficiency and impact
- Bonus: startup or bias-for-action environments, greenfield work, multi-region or Gov deployments, and prior experience in security or compliance products
