Credit Analyst underwriting working capital loans for Vault, a Canadian private lending company. Assessing borrower risk, analyzing financial statements, and recommending credit decisions.
Responsibilities
Make credit decisions within the authorized credit limit
Prepare detailed credit analyses and recommendations for transactions exceeding the Analyst’s credit limit
Support the origination process through underwriting analysis of borrowers’ character, creditworthiness, and financial condition
Provide direction and leadership to origination and sales support members on structure, terms, conditions, security, and covenant recommendations
Conduct research, financial analysis, and statistical analysis to assess client creditworthiness and minimize risk exposure
Spread and analyze business financial statements and/or tax returns
Ensure compliance with corporate credit policies and procedures
Interact with the senior leadership team
Identify process improvements and propose creative solutions
Analyze causes of delinquency and recommend cures
Monitor market changes and industry issues
Complete ad hoc requests as needed
Requirements
Minimum 3 years’ experience in Business Credit underwriting and risk management in a financial services environment
Relevant post-secondary education with an emphasis on business and finance
Strong understanding of commercial business structures
Familiarity with acceptable financing options and techniques
Sound knowledge and understanding of business financial statements, business cases, bank statement and cash flow analysis
Knowledge of commercial lending security documentation, including collection/work out techniques and remedies
Sound knowledge of credit scores reported on commercial and consumer credit bureaus
Excellent communication skills
Computer competency in word processing and spreadsheets
Excellent credit writing skills
Ability to identify and quantify subtle business risks and key drivers of risk
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to exercise sound judgment
Ability to prioritize and plan workload and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
