About the role
- Senior Java developer building scalable risk and capital systems for a leading banking client. Designing Spring Boot services and supporting production applications in a hybrid Mississauga role.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of server-side components in Java
- Translate business requirements into system designs with business analysts and stakeholders
- Build high-quality, scalable applications for complex business problems
- Write thorough test cases
- Plan and coordinate software releases
- Provide second-level support for production applications
- Collaborate with globally distributed teams across time zones
- Manage multiple concurrent projects with minimal supervision
- Contribute to the Spread Products Risk and Capital function supporting risk and capital decisions
Requirements
- 10+ years of hands-on Java/J2ee development experience
- Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field
- Extensive experience building distributed, service-oriented, and microservice-style architectures on cloud platforms (AWS, ECS, Docker, OpenShift, Kubernetes)
- Strong experience building modern applications with Spring Boot and RESTful services
- Advanced knowledge of multithreading and thread pools, with strong OOP and OOAD skills
- Experience developing real-time, low-latency applications
- Hands-on experience with relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server), plus a solid understanding of storage architectures and when to use each
- Proficiency with Linux/Unix shell
- CI/CD and code-quality tooling experience: Jenkins, TeamCity, SonarQube, Bitbucket
- Experience with message-driven architectures (Kafka, EMS) and Agile SDLC
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Prior investment banking risk system experience highly desirable
- Experience with message brokers
- Exposure to Clojure is a big plus
