About the role

  • Advanced Animator responsible for high-quality animation in games at Warner Bros. Discovery. Collaborating across disciplines to implement gameplay features and supporting cinematic animations.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for character animation and bringing our games to life through memorable storytelling under the Warner Bros. (WB) brand licenses
  • Produce, maintain and optimize gameplay animation graphs (NPCs, 3Cs, Combat)
  • Support and improve the integration of animation assets into the game engine
  • Act as the central point of contact between Programming, Design and Animation teams
  • Work closely with the Animation team to define, create and maintain the animation pipeline
  • Be versatile working with motion capture data, keyframe animation and manipulating animation content in the engine
  • Collaborate with Production and related departments to prototype new gameplay features
  • Participate in departmental meetings to share feedback while defining the look and feel of on-screen content
  • Contribute to R&D efforts to improve tools and evaluate new technologies
  • Deliver tasks on schedule and perform in-engine content reviews
  • Fix and support animation-related bugs
  • Mentor and support the animation team, with particular focus on less experienced members
  • Serve as the first line of defense on the content side when technical issues arise

Requirements

  • More than 8 years of experience in video game development and experience on at least 3 AAA titles
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong understanding of game engines; knowledge of Unreal Engine 5 highly desirable
  • Excellent technical problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Solid fundamentals in body mechanics, posing and timing
  • Strong foundation in facial animation and performance acting
  • Keen sense of cinematic storytelling including camera language, performance and directed staging
  • Proficiency with 3D animation software (Maya, MotionBuilder, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of motion capture production workflows and ability to support the pipeline
  • Good understanding of Python/MEL/MaxScript or similar scripting systems is a plus
  • Positive attitude and strong understanding of the game development process as well as art/animation pipelines for PC and consoles
  • Experience managing outsourced content and proven ability to work with external teams and outsourcing partners
  • Portfolio / demo reel / website demonstrating your animation skills required
