About the role

  • Principal Product Manager shaping security strategy for 1Password’s password-management and unified-access cybersecurity platform. Leading cryptographic, identity, platform-security, and AI-agent product initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with product managers and feature teams early to identify security requirements and threat-model implications
  • Ensure security needs are visible, prioritized, and resourced
  • Translate feature-team needs into prioritized security work
  • Make Security Engineering priorities legible across the company
  • Own the independent roadmap for platform-level security investments, including key management and recovery, cryptographic foundations, authentication, and post-quantum cryptography readiness
  • Define strategy for agentic access to credentials, secrets for non-human identities and AI agents, and trust models around tools and protocols such as MCP
  • Balance real-world security risk against user friction using adoption, support, and telemetry data
  • Document and defend accepted residual-risk decisions
  • Engage with security researchers and the bug bounty program
  • Speak at conferences and contribute to the credential-security community
  • Coach product managers on security thinking and raise the standard for security-critical product work
  • Set and champion product strategy, prioritize work, collaborate across Engineering, Design, Security Research, and GTM, and measure quality and business results

Requirements

  • 10+ years of product management experience, including significant time on security-critical products or platforms in a SaaS environment
  • Exceptional candidates with equivalent depth, such as security engineers or researchers who moved into product, will also be considered
  • Deep knowledge of cryptography, authentication protocols, identity and access management, zero-knowledge and end-to-end encrypted system design, and threat modeling
  • Fluency in the credential and identity landscape, including passkeys and WebAuthn/FIDO
  • Track record of earning credibility with security engineering teams
  • Ability to read and reason through technical specifications, security audits, and cryptographic design documents
  • Experience making and defending risk-based tradeoffs
  • History of shipping security features that users adopt and using friction and adoption data to improve them
  • Experience setting strategy at the platform or infrastructure level and influencing roadmaps without formal authority
  • Ability to communicate from a security research paper to an executive briefing with precision
  • Strong point of view on changes in the security landscape and ability to connect them to roadmap decisions
  • Standing in the security community through conference talks, publications, research, open-source work, or standards participation is a strong plus
  • Hands-on AI security experience is a strong plus
  • Experience with SOC 2, FedRAMP, or FIPS is a strong plus
  • Prior vulnerability disclosure, incident response, or threat intelligence experience is a strong plus
  • Experience running or working closely with a bug bounty program or researcher community is a strong plus
  • Must already be legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada; no work authorization, relocation assistance, or visa sponsorship/transferring offered
  • Successful applicants must complete a background check
