About the role

  • Data & AI Governance Specialist at Alberta Securities Commission overseeing data policies and AI governance. Collaborating across departments to enhance data management and compliance initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of data policies, standards, and practices including the responsible use of AI.
  • Assess the impact of data on business processes and systems.
  • Identify opportunities to deliver new and innovative data solutions.
  • Facilitate data and data management activities as well as AI governance and risk assessments.
  • Lead or participate in the design and ongoing improvement of enterprise-wide governance frameworks for data, information and records.
  • Lead, facilitate and coordinate tactical governing bodies.
  • Establish and maintain standards and guidelines for data quality, security, and privacy.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation on activities, decisions, and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with various departments on data governance objectives and standards and foster a culture of data stewardship, consistency, ethical data use, and accountability across the ASC.
  • Recommend and integrate governance approaches for structured data and unstructured content.
  • Conduct AI and data governance risk assessments to identify ethical, legal, privacy and reputational risks.
  • Identify and recommend KPIs and success metrics and manage governance requirements for system implementation and migrations.
  • Facilitate or participate in data and AI governance committees and working groups.

Requirements

  • A diploma or university degree in computer science, information technology, or computer engineering.
  • A minimum of 8 to 10 years of progressive experience in data management, risk management, data governance and related solutions.
  • At least 3 years specializing in AI governance, framework design, and solution implementation is preferred.
  • Relevant professional certifications are considered assets, including Microsoft Azure role-based, Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Information Management Professional (CIMP), Data Governance and Stewardship Professional (DGSP), AI Governance Professional (AIGP) etc.
  • Strong knowledge of implementing data governance tools, metadata management and associated processes.
  • Direct experience with cloud services, particularly Azure and of enterprise repository, data modeling, data mapping, and data profiling tools.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence business and technical stakeholders.
  • Proven organizational skills, including attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and excellent critical thinking, analytical, and decision‑making skills.
  • Experience in change management and driving adoption of data governance practices.
