About the role

  • Associate Director optimizing external manufacturing and supply partnerships for Apotex, a Canadian pharmaceutical company. Leading partner governance, performance, contracts, supply reliability, quality, and cost optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and optimize partnerships with external manufacturing and supply partners, including CMOs, CPOs, in-licensing, and co-development partners
  • Lead strategic and operational relationships with CMOs/CPOs within the assigned portfolio
  • Manage operational relationships for in-licensing and co-development partners in collaboration with Strategic Alliance Management
  • Ensure partner performance, governance, issue resolution, supply reliability, quality performance, and cost optimization
  • Build and maintain high-performing, cross-functional, compliant, and cost-effective relationships with external manufacturers and suppliers
  • Lead governance processes for assigned CMOs/CPOs and operations for the assigned portfolio
  • Ensure master supply agreement execution, updates, and renewals with Legal and Procurement
  • Participate in new contract development with Business Development and other departments
  • Hold partners accountable for contractual obligations and agreed performance standards
  • Address complex operational and contractual issues and mitigate risks
  • Lead performance management activities and regular business/performance reviews, tracking delivery, quality, service-level, and cost KPIs
  • Conduct financial reviews, including Total Cost of Ownership analysis
  • Lead cross-functional teams from Supply Chain, Procurement, Quality, and Technical/MS&T to address disruptions and implement risk mitigation strategies
  • Contribute to Global External Manufacturing strategy, performance initiatives, and organizational priorities as a member of the GEM Site Leadership Team
  • Report to the VP, Global External Manufacturing
  • Adhere to safety, compliance, quality, environmental, ethics, and HR policies

Requirements

  • University degree or equivalent in Business and/or Science related field (BSc, BASc Engineering or similar preferred)
  • 8+ years’ experience in external manufacturing & supply in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience in managing partner relationships
  • Strong senior-level communication and relationship management skills
  • Proven ability to lead, ideally in a matrix-managed environment, and motivate people with a variety of skills
  • Business and finance acumen in understanding cross-functional processes, requirements, and relevant information flows, translating gaps into solutions
  • Strong decision-making, communication, facilitation skills and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate well to internal and external partners
  • Excellent leadership skills and proven experience holding cross-functional members accountable and facilitating decision-making
  • Experience creating and managing contracts and associated terms and conditions of Supply Agreements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pharmaceutical products, preferably learned through experience in the generic industry
  • Familiarity with product development, manufacturing, packaging, testing, and relevant equipment and facility operating principles
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced and continuously changing environment
  • Strong understanding of enterprise systems such as SAP, MSP, and EPM
  • Computer skills and knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, and project management software
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • MBA, Integrated Project Management, Technical Acumen, PMP, and Supply Chain Certification considered an asset
