About the role

Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise all aspects of audit engagements for private company clients from planning through completion
  • Collaborate with engagement teams to ensure efficient and effective execution
  • Monitor accounting and auditing standards, regulations and reporting requirements applicable to private companies
  • Interpret and apply standards during audits to ensure compliance and accurate financial reporting
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop comprehensive audit plans
  • Analyze financial statements for accuracy, completeness and adherence to accounting principles
  • Identify and address errors, misstatements and irregularities
  • Lead and mentor audit teams, providing guidance, feedback and support
  • Build relationships with private company stakeholders and communicate audit findings, insights and recommendations
  • Ensure engagements meet quality control standards, best practices and ethical guidelines
  • Review and sign off on audit documentation
  • Oversee Work in Progress (WIP), monitor WIP reports and support efficient resource allocation
  • Develop and manage engagement budgets; monitor expenses and resource utilization
  • Address budget variances and maintain profitability
  • Improve audit methodologies, tools and processes
  • Stay current on auditing practices, accounting pronouncements and private-company industry issues
  • Comply with firm and regulatory confidentiality policies

Requirements

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA)
  • At least 1-2 years of management experience at a progressive public accounting firm, with significant emphasis on private company clients, from start-up to mature
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and managing audit engagements for private companies
  • Thorough ASPE knowledge and application of relevant professional standards, regulations and corporate governance requirements
  • Familiarity with and exposure to Canadian Tax
  • Ability to provide value-added service to clients
  • Strong understanding of a client-focused environment, including related deadlines and ability to meet them
  • Strong leadership, coaching and people development skills
  • Sound judgment regarding confidential and sensitive matters
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Advanced computer knowledge including Caseware, Taxprep or Profile and Excel
  • Ability to work Monday to Friday
