About the role

  • Fleet Manager optimizing carrier productivity, planning, and retention for Bison Transport, a Canadian trucking provider. On-site role supporting carriers in Winnipeg or Mississauga.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the productivity, performance, and satisfaction of assigned carriers
  • Review key performance indicators and participate in strategies to improve results
  • Manage day-to-day carrier trip execution and resolve issues
  • Optimize fleet capacity, maximize miles per truck, and meet utilization targets
  • Monitor tractor and truck availability and proactively address capacity gaps
  • Collaborate with carriers and Bison OTR teams to minimize breakdown-related downtime
  • Plan assigned carriers based on set availability (PTA)
  • Assign freight through planning groups and outbound planning tools, including advance outbound and reload planning
  • Develop achievable, productive plans aligned with Bison Highway Planning Standards and customer requirements
  • Participate in carrier selection for dedicated runs and scheduled departures
  • Manage carrier performance across utilization, level of service, tracing compliance, truck posting, safety and compliance, operational issues, and carrier reviews
  • Build and maintain relationships with carrier contacts, dispatch, and ownership
  • Resolve planning and customer service issues and coordinate maintenance resolutions
  • Support and escalate carrier pay-related issues
  • Participate in special projects and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support freight brokerage activities and cross-functional programs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 1-3 years experience in transportation, logistics, fleet management, or a related role
  • Experience working with carriers, dispatch, or load planning is an asset
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and coach
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize personal and fleet activities with a keen sense of timeliness
  • Strong organizational skills and a clear sense of urgency about planning and executing work
  • Ability to maintain composure, effectiveness, and flexibility under pressure
  • Strong ability to adapt to varying situations
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work on-site in Winnipeg or Mississauga
  • Availability for a 4-on, 4-off shift from 06:00 to 18:00 CT
