About the role

  • Business Intelligence Analyst developing and delivering Power BI reports and collaborating with data teams at Alberta Blue Cross. Enabling users through training and supporting analytics initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Design and Deliver Power BI Solutions - Build end-to-end reporting and dashboard solutions using Power BI.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering - Partner with data engineers to understand data pipelines, Lakehouse architectures, and semantic layers.
  • Enable Business Users - Work directly with business units to understand reporting requirements and provide training and support.
  • Champion Data Literacy - Develop and deliver training materials that help users understand data concepts and Power BI capabilities.
  • Implement DevOps Practices - Apply CI/CD principles to reporting solutions including version control and deployment automation.
  • Optimize Report Performance - Monitor and improve report performance and user experience.
  • Support AI-Ready Analytics - Collaborate with data and AI teams for reporting layers to support emerging AI applications.
  • Maintain Quality and Governance - Ensure all reporting solutions adhere to data governance policies.
  • Drive User Adoption - Track and improve reporting solution adoption through user feedback.
  • Innovate with Modern Tools - Stay current with Power Platform capabilities and analytics technologies.

Requirements

  • A related technical degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, Power BI development, or enterprise reporting solutions.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI, including semantic modeling, DAX, Power Query, and enterprise deployment patterns.
  • Proficiency in programming and scripting languages including Python, SQL, Power Query (M), DAX, and PowerShell.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric components including Lakehouse, Notebooks, Semantic Models, and data pipelines.
  • Demonstrated experience working with cloud data platforms, particularly Azure and Microsoft Fabric technologies.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling concepts, star schema design, and dimensional modeling principles.
  • Experience with DevOps practices including Git version control, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines for analytics solutions.
  • Proven ability to translate business requirements into effective reporting solutions and visualizations.
  • Excellent communication and training skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical business stakeholders.
  • Experience developing training materials, user documentation, and enablement programs for analytics tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with data engineering teams and business units in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience with AI and automation technologies including Azure OpenAI, Copilot, and Power Platform automation considered an asset.
  • Microsoft certifications in Power BI, Azure, or Power Platform considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.
  • Experience in insurance or healthcare industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and Lean practices.
