Home Visitor supporting families with young children through Manitoba’s Families First program. Conducting strength-based home visits and promoting parenting, child development, safety, and community connections.
Responsibilities
Work with families using a strength-based and solution-focused approach
Promote positive parent-child relationships and healthy childhood growth and development
Enhance parenting skills and promote family safety and well-being
Connect families with community resources
Initiate and maintain regular family-centered home visits
Work as a member of an interdisciplinary team
Use an evidence-informed curriculum to support positive parent-child interactions
Consult with and receive guidance from Public Health Nurses
Support families in exploring goals related to their culture and values
Implement home-visiting practices according to the provincial Families First Program guidelines
Provide services in a wide variety of community settings and varying weather and environmental conditions
Travel for training, program needs, or home-visiting services
Requirements
Minimum (1) year experience working with families with young children ages 0-5, or prenatal families in areas related to parenting, in the last five years required
High School Diploma or equivalent; or GED Manitoba Standards required
Certification as a Community Support Worker, Social Services Worker, Family Support Worker, Early Childhood Educator, or other relevant post-secondary education in a related field is an asset
Successful candidate required to complete Families First provincial orientation and training as scheduled
Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Ability to adapt to a changing work environment
Shows initiative and ability to take direction
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team using effective communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to effectively use curriculum-based resources and adult learning principles
Ability to plan, organize, and implement strength-based, trauma-informed, and culturally safe practices
Knowledge of early childhood growth and development prenatally up to five years of age
Understanding of Indigenous culture, traditions, values, and language is an asset
Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Internet applications, other information technology, and technical equipment
Demonstrated fluency in English, including verbal, reading, and written communication skills
Proficiency in both official languages essential for designated bilingual positions
Physically able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 20 lbs. or 9 kgs.
Physically able to climb stairs, crouch, and kneel/sit on the floor
Current satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search
Current Child Abuse Registry Check
Current Adult Abuse Registry Check
Willingness and ability to travel throughout the region/province; designated Northern positions may require remote-community travel and overnight accommodations
Evening and weekend work may be required
