About the role
- Freelance Japanese Translator localizing Chess.com’s chess apps, content, and marketing campaigns. Reviewing translations and editing graphical assets for Japanese-speaking players.
Responsibilities
- Translate user interfaces for Chess.com apps, including Chess.com Web & Mobile, ChessKid, and Dr. Wolf
- Translate marketing campaigns
- Translate Coach analysis, Game Review, Courses, and related content
- Translate and edit graphical assets
- Review previously submitted translations and ensure high quality
Requirements
- Passion for chess and a deep understanding of chess terminology
- Proven professional experience translating complex texts between English and Japanese
- Exceptional linguistic knowledge, including a strong grasp of language theory and structure
- Native or near-native fluency in both English and Japanese
- Excellent communication skills and high responsiveness
- Ability to work effectively on collaborative platforms like Slack
- Proven ability to work efficiently and meet tight deadlines, occasionally within a 24–48 hour turnaround time, including weekends/holidays
- Basic graphic editing skills
