About the role

  • Paralegal supporting corporate governance, licensing, and litigation for Canada’s leading alternative lending bank. Providing research and operational legal support within Fairstone’s in-house legal team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation of corporate and regulatory license filings at provincial and federal levels
  • Organize, track, monitor and prepare reports on litigation
  • Handle administrative matters, including management of legal notices
  • Conduct legal research under supervision of in-house counsel
  • Provide operational legal support under supervision of in-house counsel
  • Participate in special projects and assume other responsibilities as needed
  • Work directly with colleagues as part of the in-house legal team to support business growth and mitigate and manage legal and regulatory risk

Requirements

  • Paralegal or law clerk certification required
  • 3-5 years of experience in an in-house legal department or a combination of law firm and in-house legal department
  • Experience working in banking and financial institutions or other similarly regulated industries is an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Proficiency in Board document management systems, including Diligent, is an asset
  • Fully bilingual (English and French), written and spoken
  • Extremely well-organized and able to work under pressure and handle multiple projects/assignments concurrently
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work on confidential and/or sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion
  • Highly motivated, energetic and enthusiastic self-starter
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check and credit check
  • Work experience must be validated to qualify for hire
