Paralegal supporting corporate governance, licensing, and litigation for Canada’s leading alternative lending bank. Providing research and operational legal support within Fairstone’s in-house legal team.
Responsibilities
Assist with preparation of corporate and regulatory license filings at provincial and federal levels
Organize, track, monitor and prepare reports on litigation
Handle administrative matters, including management of legal notices
Conduct legal research under supervision of in-house counsel
Provide operational legal support under supervision of in-house counsel
Participate in special projects and assume other responsibilities as needed
Work directly with colleagues as part of the in-house legal team to support business growth and mitigate and manage legal and regulatory risk
Requirements
Paralegal or law clerk certification required
3-5 years of experience in an in-house legal department or a combination of law firm and in-house legal department
Experience working in banking and financial institutions or other similarly regulated industries is an asset
Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Proficiency in Board document management systems, including Diligent, is an asset
Fully bilingual (English and French), written and spoken
Extremely well-organized and able to work under pressure and handle multiple projects/assignments concurrently
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work on confidential and/or sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion
Highly motivated, energetic and enthusiastic self-starter
Must successfully pass a criminal background check and credit check
Work experience must be validated to qualify for hire
