About the role
- MHSW Depot Technician operating Halton Region facilities for GFL. Processing hazardous waste, serving residents, maintaining safety, and tracking material inventories.
Responsibilities
- Handle, consolidate and process hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials received by the Processing Facilities
- Operate the Region of Halton MHSW Depot
- Provide customer service to residents visiting the depot
- Ensure the safety of workers, the public and visitors
- Perform physically demanding work
- Identify, sort and pack waste chemicals into appropriate storage containers
- Weigh materials including drums, gaylords and 20L pails
- Input material weights into the computer inventory tracking system
- Maintain clean grounds and facility
- Comply with rules and regulations for operating the depot
- Communicate with Region of Halton representatives and the public
- Report to and receive authorization from the MHSW Program Lead
Requirements
- Post-secondary degree/diploma required
- Chemistry or environmental field is an asset
- Two (2) years of MHSW, chemistry or relevant experience
- Valid G License and own transportation mandatory
- Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located required
- Ability to work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 7:45am-4:30pm
- Ability to perform physically demanding, moderately labor intensive and repetitious tasks
- Focus on safety and efficiency in a team environment
- Good communication skills
- Ability to handle hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials
- Ability to identify, sort, pack and weigh waste materials
- Ability to use a computer inventory tracking system
