Registered Practical Nurse providing pre- and post-operative outpatient care. Supporting surgical program growth at Halton Healthcare, a community hospital organization.
Responsibilities
Assist with operational growth within the surgical program
Function as an active member of a multidisciplinary team providing patient-focused care in the outpatient environment
Collaborate with health care professionals to plan and implement care for a wide variety of surgical cases
Provide pre- and post-operative care, including orthopedic same-day total joint care
Administer and monitor blood products
Perform wound, ostomy, CBI, Foley catheter, IV and medication-related care within scope of practice
Work across Monday-to-Friday day, evening and rotating shifts
Requirements
Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
Current BCLS Certification required at time of hire
Recent surgical experience in a day surgery environment required, including pre- and post-operative care
Strong surgical experience
Recent experience with ophthalmology pre- and post-operative care preferred
Experience with orthopedic patients, especially total joint replacements, strongly recommended
Knowledge of pain management preferred
Experience with Acute Pain Service
Experience with regional anesthesia, including peripheral nerve blocks and spinals
CVAD experience preferred
Strong skills in IV insertion preferred
Aseptic technique, wound care, ostomy care, CBI care, Foley catheter insertion and management, and IV care and management including blood product administration and monitoring
Experience in medication administration
Basic computer skills and Order Entry module of Meditech required
Familiarity with Smarttrack (OR Manager) preferred
