Registered Nurse providing person-centered care at Peel Region’s Sheridan Villa long-term care home. Administering treatments, coordinating resident care, and leading nursing staff.
Responsibilities
Apply the Nursing Process to provide individualized care to residents
Complete and update Resident Plans of Care with multidisciplinary team input
Communicate pertinent resident information and document nursing care
Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Safekeep drug and narcotic keys
Confer with physicians, carry out orders and document follow-up
Supervise and assist in the dining room to ensure appropriate diets and quality dining service
Respond promptly to nurse call and alarm systems
Lead, oversee and evaluate nursing care provided by nursing personnel
Participate in staff evaluation on the unit
Analyze resident incident/accident reports and implement corrective action
Maintain a safe working environment and report unsafe conditions
Complete and forward staff incident/accident reports
Provide health teaching and advocate for residents and families
Attend in-service education, staff meetings and workshops
Assist with orientation of new nursing staff
Participate in the Continuous Quality Improvement program and monitor CQI indicators
Participate in committees and develop or present approved in-service education programs
Coordinate and attend resident care conferences
Monitor and control medical and personal care supply usage
Report health and safety hazards and perform emergency and occupational health and safety measures
Perform other delegated duties as assigned
Report to the Director of Care or designate
Requirements
Current certificate of competence as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Experience in geriatric or long-term care, rehabilitation, medical/surgical, and psychiatric nursing is preferred
Proficiency in basic computer skills is required
Must be physically able to perform all delegated duties
Availability for a minimum of four shifts per month for twelve calendar months of the year
Availability to work one weekend per month
Availability to work either Christmas or New Year's Day
Strong leadership, interpersonal and teamwork abilities
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to communicate appropriately with residents, staff, professionals, visitors and volunteers
Ability to work independently and within a team structure
Vulnerable Sector Police Check required prior to hire
TB Skin Testing required prior to hire
