Responsibilities
Deliver mechanical design for district energy, energy centres, and low-carbon thermal infrastructure projects
Manage assigned technical scopes
Organize and follow through on assigned work to agreed timelines
Communicate progress and raise technical or schedule issues early
Prepare and review mechanical calculations, equipment sizing, PFDs, P&IDs, system layouts, construction drawings, specifications, and tender packages
Apply engineering knowledge of hydronic systems, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, controls, and district energy distribution piping
Coordinate with civil, electrical, structural, controls, and other disciplines
Develop practical, constructible solutions
Meet with existing and prospective clients, understand their needs, and develop professional relationships
Participate in business development, identify and pursue opportunities, contribute to proposals, and help secure new and repeat work in Ontario
Work with project managers on scope, schedule, quality, and budget tracking
Provide technical support during procurement, construction, and commissioning
Share knowledge with junior engineers and EITs
Collaborate with colleagues across offices and time zones
Requirements
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), registered with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
Approximately 8–12 years of mechanical engineering experience
Preferably consulting experience in district energy or related thermal infrastructure
Solid working knowledge of hydronic systems, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, controls, and district energy distribution piping systems
Ability to carry out technical assignments with limited day-to-day supervision
Sound judgment and ability to seek input when needed
Dependable follow-through on commitments and deadlines
Clear communication about progress, issues, and support needs
Organized and self-directed approach to remote work
Strong interpersonal and client-facing skills
Demonstrated interest and ability in business development and building client relationships
Willingness to travel for client meetings, field visits, and occasional team or project meetings
Ability to conduct site visits appropriate to project conditions
Physical ability to conduct field visits, including handling and operating equipment, travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air, or foot, and outdoor site visits in all weather conditions on uneven/varying terrain
Nice to have: experience with energy transfer stations (ETS) and/or central energy plants
Nice to have: experience with sewage heat recovery (SHR), ambient-temperature loops, heat pumps, or thermal energy storage
Nice to have: experience working with municipalities, utilities, or other infrastructure clients
Nice to have: experience contributing to successful proposals, winning new work, or developing repeat business
Nice to have: experience providing construction support or commissioning services
