About the role

  • Lead Mechanical Engineer designing and overseeing substation projects for Qualus, a power infrastructure solutions firm. Leading mechanical discipline work from design through construction and commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Mechanical Discipline Lead and Professional of Record for substation projects
  • Prepare and review mechanical design drawings, including site layouts, building floor plans and sections, plumbing schematics, HVAC and fire protection controls diagrams, diesel generator building drawings, facility plans, and equipment mounting details
  • Prepare and review design basis documents, standards, equipment specifications, design calculations, diesel genset sizing, fire separation designs, testing and acceptance procedures, and field review documentation
  • Review vendor documents against specifications
  • Lead projects from conception through construction and commissioning
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers
  • Coordinate resource planning, scope, schedule, and budget for the project discipline team
  • Coordinate construction and commissioning activities with utility clients and subcontractors
  • Respond to construction-site requests and complete project documentation, including as-builts, calculations, and client data
  • Travel to site and liaise with internal groups, external contractors, and clients
  • Maintain relationships with internal groups, contractors, and clients
  • Integrate current safe practices and methods into designs
  • Collaborate with Civil, Structural, Architectural, Electrical, and other engineering disciplines

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university
  • Canadian Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng.) or the ability to register as a Professional Engineer with EGBC
  • 5–10 years of mechanical engineering experience
  • Strong understanding of regulatory codes and standards, including NBC-AB Edition, NECB, ASHRAE, NFPA, API, and SMACNA
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship is required
