About the role

  • Bilingual Proposal Specialist supporting the national team at McCarthy Tétrault, providing strategic direction and managing proposal processes with a focus on client value.

Responsibilities

  • Support for proposals and pitch materials
  • Act as the proposal lead to provide strategic direction for developing responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) in French and English, Requests for Information (RFIs), expressions of interest, presentation materials and related documents.
  • Work directly with lawyers and client and market teams to draft responses to RFPs, RFIs, expressions of interest, pitch decks and related materials.
  • Provide strategic advice and vision, apply best practices in proposal development, and influence and negotiate with stakeholders to ensure proposals and presentations are client-focused and clearly articulate our value and strengths.
  • Organize and lead kick-off meetings to identify key themes and the proposal and pricing strategy to be emphasized.
  • Create initial drafts using internal content and tools.
  • Oversee and finalize proposals for submission to clients (including printing or submission via procurement portals).
  • Ensure RFPs, proposals and presentations are recorded in the firm’s business development databases.
  • Monitor procurement portals to identify new potential business opportunities.
  • Provide support for in-person client presentations, including drafting agendas, speaker notes, slide decks, pitch materials and related briefing documents.
  • Lead and coordinate the preparation of responses to client reporting requests, liaising with various firm stakeholders such as Finance, the Office of Inclusion, HR, IT and others.
  • Assist lawyers with accreditation submissions under tight deadlines.
  • Follow up with lawyers on proposals and record outcomes in the firm’s database.
  • Support the production of proposal metrics, such as volume, win rates, proposals by practice area, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Research & Intelligence team to gather and distill client, prospect and industry intelligence to support lawyers through the proposal process.
  • Develop industry- and practice-focused proposal templates to improve efficiency.
  • Draft, edit and standardize proposal content in English and French, including differentiation factors, value propositions and content related to practice areas, industry sectors and international markets, legal project management, client solutions, value‑added services, pricing, and more.
  • Update the firm’s proposal tool with approved content.
  • Provide support and guidance throughout the French translation process, working with our internal translation team and reviewing, editing and quality‑assuring French proposal content.
  • Ensure processes and projects are executed effectively within the proposals team.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives to optimize our tools, content and processes.
  • Develop and/or update training tools and resources for the proposals team.
  • Deliver training on the proposal process and professional development to new hires.
  • Provide feedback and guidance on French client communications.
  • Provide support and input, as needed, on other important drafting tasks that are essential to marketing and business development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or a related field.
  • At least three years of relevant professional experience, ideally including two years in a large professional services organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, tact and discretion.
  • Full bilingual proficiency in French and English, both written and spoken.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines.
  • Systematic, logical approach to tasks with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
